Here's one issue I'd really like to clear up:
"saying something in the past never was to begin with isn't acknowledging your mistakes. sports, tv, internet, video games..... instead of repenting you lied to yourself and said these were always ok. Why are you lying to yourself instead of being honest and say ok, I made a mistake, an error, I was wrong, forgive me ? God would honor that more than how you are behaving now."

I know, that first sentence is hard to read isn't it? Let me help. He means that I am denying that there were ever rules against the things he mentioned here, and should acknowledge that I made mistakes in making those rules.
I never denied it at all
I'll say it again; THERE WERE RULES AGAINST SOME OF THESE THINGS. I DO acknowledge that, but do NOT acknowledge any mistakes, because I didn't make any. I have made plenty in my life; that I will acknowledge. But what I said was, there weren't ALWAYS rules against these things. NTCC goes back to the late 60's, so the internet and PC Games didn't even exist at that time.
There's something that everyone needs to understand
I do not make the rules, and have only recently had opportunity to affect them. In the past I have only been in the unfortunate position of having to enforce them. That doesn't mean I agreed with them. If so be they were mistakes, they weren't mine. As for the church organization? I have nothing to do with policies and doctrines of the organization concerning things like TV (which ministers aren't to have if they carry license in NTCC- unless it is solely as a gaming monitor or something, and not connected to TV input) and couldn't change them if I wanted to. If that gets changed, Rev. Olson will have to do it by mandate or through board approval. I have no such power. Even in the Bible School realm I am limited.
Here's an example
During Forest Ave. days in bible school, we always went out to restaurants in groups by dorm, or several dorms. In the mid 80's one brother with a particularly loud mouth started telling jokes at the table at Denny's. Loud, and obscene jokes. Customers complained, the manager called the school, and bam! No more dorm fellowship but two brothers at a time. No bible involved, just a simple, necessary disciplinary measure. It kept going and going, so when it fell to me to have a say, I lifted it. The rule was like saying "no talking in the library" or "no shirt, no shoes, no service" in a restaurant.
My influence on the bible school rules has only been to lighten them, not increase them. Further, since I wasn't a bible school student during that time, I was not UNDER those rules. The sports rule was not bible based to begin with, and was for bible school students. Not me.
There NEVER WAS a rule against internet
Admittedly Pastor spoke vehemently against it, and for good reason; it has destroyed many Christian walks, many ministers. The very nature of it is obsessive and distracting. Yet he never banned it, EVER. Neither were DVD's ever banned, but there are some who now watch nudity, profanity in movies of all kinds, so was it wise to speak against movies? Absolutely. He also apologized publicly about the internet issue, stating that he really didn't understand at the time, how it worked, and had pre-judged it, but still believes that it can mess people up, so "do what YOU want to do" he said. I don't understand why you are here years later asking ME to apologize, when he already did. Either you didn't hear or see it, or you want to keep the issue alive.
There never was a rule against video games, but there surely was preaching that warned against the distraction. There is still a rule about no-Video Arcades-( hangouts for troublemakers), but that's kind of a thing of the past now too. Playing Video games is not sin, but In general, anything that keeps you from the will of God for your ministry, is wrong...even if it's something as harmless as drinking milk!
Brother, I know you probably mean well, but don't be angry with me. I "ain't misbehavin' " (the title of a Jazz classic I believe). I sincerely hope that you will now apologize since you spoke without knowing the situation, but that's up to you.
